💼 Experience: 3 years 3 months

👨‍💻 Current Role: Software Engineer at a FAANG company in India

🎓 Education: B.Tech, CS, Tier 1, India

💰 Current Compensation: ₹33 LPA

I recently interviewed for an SDE II Backend Engineering role at Uber. Sharing the complete process and questions asked for anyone preparing for Uber interviews.

📝 Application

I applied directly through the Uber career portal without a referral.

After around 5 days, I received an email from a recruiter to schedule the initial recruiter call. I scheduled the call for the following week.

📞 Round 1 — Recruiter Screening

The recruiter screening was primarily an alignment and fitment discussion.

Some of the topics discussed:

  • Current role and experience
  • Why I am looking to switch
  • Projects I have worked on
  • Backend vs frontend experience
  • Technologies I have worked with
  • Overall technical background

✅ Result: Cleared

Based on the discussion, the recruiter scheduled the Business Phone Screen, which was the first elimination round.

The Business Phone Screen was scheduled around 3 weeks after the recruiter call.

💻 Round 2 — Business Phone Screen — DSA

⏱️ Duration: 60 minutes

The round was focused on Data Structures & Algorithms.

Question

First Unique Number — 99% similar to the LeetCode problem

I was able to solve the problem using the optimal approach.

✅ Result: Hire

After this round, I was moved to the onsite interview loop.

The onsite consisted of:

  • 2 DSA rounds
  • 1 HLD round
  • 1 Behavioral round

💻 Round 3 — DSA

Question

Design Hit Counter — 99% similar to the LeetCode problem

The version I received had three methods:

  • put(element)
  • getCount(element)
  • getTotalCount() — total count across all elements

✅ Result: Hire

🏗️ Round 4 — HLD

Question

Design a chat application similar to ChatGPT

The application needed to support:

  • Starting a new chat
  • Continuing a previous chat
  • Other similar requirements

I had prepared for HLD primarily using Hello Interview. However, during the actual interview, I got stuck at a few places and made several silly mistakes. I wasn't able to recover well enough during the interview.

❌ Result: No Hire

💻 Round 5 — DSA

Question

My Calendar I — 99% similar to the LeetCode problem

❌ Result: No Hire

🤝 Round 6 — Behavioral

The behavioral round focused primarily on previous work experiences and situations.

Some of the questions asked were:

  • Tell me about a time when there was a conflict. How did you resolve it?
  • Tell me about your most challenging project.
  • Tell me about a time when you received critical feedback.
  • Tell me about a time when you had to write suboptimal code because of time constraints.
  • Other similar behavioral and collaboration questions.

✅ Result: Hire

📌 Final Outcome

❌ Rejected

I am currently also in interview loops with 2 other companies, apart from the ones already mentioned below. I'll share the interview experiences for those companies as well once I have the final outcomes. 🚀
