Background :

  • Experience: 3+ years

  • Current CTC: ₹18 LPA (Fixed) + 10% Annual Bonus
  • Wayfair Offer: ₹32 LPA Fixed + ₹1.92L PF (Total ₹33.92 LPA)

How It Started

Got contacted by a recruiter from Instahyre who shared an overview of the role and compensation details. The process started quickly after I confirmed my interest.


Online Assessment (Hackerrank)

  • Consisted of 2 mid-to-hard LeetCode-style questions.
  • Difficulty was moderate to high — focused on problem-solving and edge case handling.

✅ Cleared and moved to the next round.


Round 1 – Design Round (Hackerrank Platform)

Task: Design an Order Management System.

  • Some classes and interfaces were already provided; I had to implement the missing functionalities.
  • After completing the code, there was a follow-up discussion on approach, design decisions, and complexity.

Round 2 – Application Design Round

  • Asked to design a Bike Rental System.

  • Focus areas:

    • API Design
    • Database Schema Design
    • Sequence Diagram / Flow Explanation
  • Additional SQL queries were asked:

    • Fetch available vehicles
    • Fetch booked vehicles
    • Identify overdue rentals

✅ Cleared this round and got invited for onsite.


Round 3 – Onsite Interviews

(Conducted with multiple engineering managers)

1️⃣ Hiring Manager (Engineering Manager) – 45 mins

  • Discussion around:
    • Current project & responsibilities
    • Resume-based technical questions
    • Spring Boot concepts (Beans, Transactions, REST design)
    • Deployment strategies and scaling practices

2️⃣ Senior Engineering Manager – 15 mins

  • Short round covering:
    • “Why Wayfair?”
    • How I handle challenges, deadlines, and team collaboration.

Round 4 – HR Discussion (30 mins)

  • Salary discussion
  • Cultural fitment and general behavioral questions

Additional Round

About a week later, HR informed me that the original position got closed, but they wanted to consider me for another team.
They scheduled one more discussion (1 hour) with another Hiring Manager, which included:

  • Deep dive into my current project
  • Discussion on database design choices and reasoning

Outcome

Although the process took some time due to internal changes, the overall experience with Wayfair was structured and professional.
They focused heavily on design skills, clean architecture thinking, and real-world application knowledge.
