My Flipkart Experience: A Year of Disappointment
I joined Flipkart a year ago with high hopes, expecting a positive experience in terms of growth, learning opportunities, and working with a reputed brand. Unfortunately, this turned out to be one of the worst decisions of my career. Here’s why:
-
Excessive Micromanagement
The environment here is heavily focused on micromanagement. Every small task is monitored and questioned, leaving no room for trust or autonomy. -
Constant Calls from the Manager
The manager frequently calls during and outside work hours, disrupting productivity and personal time. This level of intrusion makes it hard to focus on actual work. -
Lack of Support from Management
The manager provides no guidance or support. Whenever I approached him for help, it felt like a dead-end. His technical and product knowledge is inadequate, making me wonder how he secured and retained his position for three years. -
Manager Leveraging Team Members for His Benefit
Instead of genuinely contributing to the team, the manager often asks us to provide him with context and details about projects so he can appear competent in front of his superiors. It’s frustrating to work under someone who prioritizes their image over the team’s success. -
Biased Behavior
The manager displays clear biases based on religion, which has created an unfair and uncomfortable work environment. This behavior is not only unprofessional but also detrimental to team morale. -
Unethical Promotion Practices
To secure promotions for himself and a few select individuals, he pulled employees from other teams into his own, sidelining deserving team members. It’s disheartening to witness such favoritism and unethical practices. -
No Knowledge Transfers (KTs)
Despite being responsible for team productivity, the manager does not facilitate or participate in any knowledge transfers. This lack of support makes onboarding and collaboration unnecessarily challenging. -
Final Thoughts
Working at Flipkart has been a deeply disappointing experience. Instead of fostering growth, the environment here has been draining and counterproductive. My advice to anyone considering joining Flipkart: think twice. Don’t waste your time and effort in a place where micromanagement, biases, and lack of leadership prevail.
