The interview process and format of each interview, for example:
Technical phone screen (45 minutes):
- Object Manipulation
- Increasing Parts
The questions were object manipulation. Like traversing through JSON Object, and manipulating the data. It's definitely much easier for front end engineers and people who use JavaScript. It's a real world example that I used to do at work.
I think the reason I feel down is because I prepped all my interviews to be in Java and then I hit a curveball. For this one specifically, I prepared mostly for string manipulation in Java.
As soon as I saw the problem, I immediately switched to javascript. 2 things about stripe screening interview, the interview is timed and they look for quickness. I dont have much experience parsing JSON in Java, I also knew I could create an object for testing in Java. However that would take a lot more time of the interview which is timed. So that was my decision to switch to JavaScript. I managed to get through 2 questions, as I have experience in manipulating data in JavaScript. I ultimately thought, man if I did this in Java I wont be quick enough. Maybe I just don't have real world experience traversing in complex JSON objects in java that would put me at an advantage here.
I'd say its actually an easy interview, but I wish I prepped better.
For anyone interviewing at Stripe make sure to practice string manipulation and Object Manipulation.
Anyways take it for what it is, I'm not allowed to share the question or such.
