Flipkar SDE 2 Backend Interview Experience - 29th June 2024
I received a mail on 27th June from a flipkart recruiter asking my availability on 29th June for a SDE 2 interview. (I know, no time to prepare, and ofcourse i said yes).
Round - 1 - Machine Coding Round - 29th June
Overiew - In this round they basically added all the interviewee in one call and we all need to build a working console app.
TimeLine -
9:30AM - 10:00AM - A Flipkart SDE 3 explained us the question and had a QA session with us (yes you can clarify your doubts).
10:00AM - 11:30AM - Time given to Built the app (You have to stay on call).
Question - Have to design a cache. In which a user can insert, fetch, remove data and can also select the eviction policy during runtime. (eviction policy - protocol by which cache remove the key value pair. eg - LRU (Least Recently Used) - will remove the least used key first, TimeEviction - based upon certain time the cache will remove the key. etc)
Verdict - Was able to build a working app with all the asked features.
Round - 1.1 - Machine Coding Evaluation - 29th June
Overiew - In this round they will evaluate you code what you have submitted and will ask you to run it. MUST HAVE A RUNNING CODE.
TimeLine -
12:45PM - 1:45PM
Questions -
- They asked me to run the code (IMP). Explain my design approch.
- I have used strategy and factory design pattern for the eviction policy feature. (Some questions around that).
- Asked to add a new eviction policy - wanted to see the eforts it takes to add a new feature into the existing design.
- Some other desgin questions were asked
Verdict - Answered all of his questions. and he seems happy with the desgin. Recevied a call from the HR - Positive
Round - 2 - PSDS (DSA)- 29th June
Overiew - Its a DSA round. 2 Questions will be asked (medium level).

2:30PM - 3:30PM
Questions -
- Binary Tree - https://leetcode.com/problems/binary-tree-maximum-path-sum/description/
- BInary Search - Similar to - https://leetcode.com/problems/koko-eating-bananas/description/
Verdict - Interviewer was very nice (SDE 2 at flipkart). Answered all of his questions. Got a call for the next rounds.
Round - 3 - Design round - 30th June
Overiew - A desgin question will be asked HLD , LLD
TimeLine -
12:20PM - 1:20PM
Questions -
- Design a url shortner app, Design API's endpoints.
- If you have multiple data center how will you design then.
- Scalling the DB (sharding and partion).
- Kafka. SQL vs NOSql. Redis. How will you improve system performance.
Verdict - This round was okish. As there not much component there in a url shortner app to explain. interviwer was very nice and was a principal arch at flipkart. He was expecting mostly High Level Design and asked question around that only. Got a call for the HM Round.
Round - 4 - HM - 30th June
Overiew - Hiring manager round
TimeLine -
2:00PM - 3:00PM
Questions -
- Managerial Questions. how was your latest performance review.
- Your fav project you have worked on.
- Two people in your worksapce you look up to.
Verdict - This round was good and was taken by Director of Engg.. Talked about flipkart entry into quick commerce(zepto deal), regarding the acquistion of flipkart by walmart etc.
Its almost been 6 days now have not recevied any offer (verbal) from flipkart. Have called the HR two times and both time she said you will get a call from recruiter by EOD (and that was day before yesterday). Anyways this my interview experience of flipkart SDE 2 role. Please upvote this, so that it can help others as well.
