Yes, I know that this is a coding forum, but career growth in software industry is not about just being the best perfect programmar. There are tonnes of soft-skills aspects which are unfortunately more important than your coding and technical skills.
Unfortunately, hardly anyone of us know these things unless and until there is an elder family member or friend, who has been through it, and more importantly willing to share their learnings.
I would recommend everyone to go through this amazing book, which covers tonnes of things, the way HR works, the way reviews are conducted etc.
Name of book : Corporate Confidential: 50 Secrets Your Company Doesn't Want You to Know---and What to Do About Them
Author: Cynthia Shapiro
My personal opinion : I came to know about this book only after completing 8+ years in my job, and seriously wish someone had told me all this even before I joined my first job.
Sharing it with the intention of being helpful to at least few people - especially for fresh graduates about to join the corporate world.
