Infosys DSE/SP Interview Experience — R1 + R2

I recently appeared for the Infosys interview process, which consisted of two technical rounds.

Round 1 — Technical Interview (~40 minutes)

The round started with 2 coding questions. We were expected to solve only one (in maxx 30 min .. i solve it in 10 min).

I solved the first question using a greedy approach with pairs, and was able to explain the logic and complexity.

After the coding part, the interviewer focused mainly on my resume and core technical fundamentals.

Topics discussed:

  • Java fundamentals and core concepts
  • Java 8
  • OOP concepts
  • Exception handling
  • Spring Boot fundamentals
  • Basic DSA concepts
  • Questions related to my projects and technologies mentioned in my resume

The interviewer was more interested in understanding my concepts and reasoning rather than asking definitions directly.

I was selected for the second round.

Round 2 — Interviewd by Senior Technical Lead (~1 hour)

The second round was conducted by a Senior Technical Lead at Infosys.

The interview started with a brief introduction and then moved into technical discussion.

System Design / Distributed Systems

I was asked about:

  • CAP Theorem
  • Different possible scenarios under CAP
  • Why the theorem matters
  • Where different approaches can be used
  • Practical/system-level reasoning

I was then asked to design WhatsApp at a high level (HLD).

The discussion focused on understanding the major components and how the system would work at scale.

Project Deep Dive

After that, I was asked to choose one of my projects.

The interviewer went quite deep into the project and asked about almost everything related to it, including the technologies used, implementation decisions, architecture, and reasoning behind the choices.

So I would strongly recommend being able to explain every technology and major design decision mentioned in your resume/project.

DBMS

I selected DBMS as my favourite subject.

Questions included:

  • SQL queries
  • Normalization
  • Types of normalization and why they are used
  • Keys
  • Transactions and basic transaction concepts

The questions were mostly focused on understanding rather than simply recalling definitions.

OS & Computer Networks

The interviewer also asked some basic questions from:

  • Operating Systems
  • Computer Networks

AI / ML

Towards the end, there was a discussion around basic AI/ML concepts, including:

  • AI and ML basics
  • LLMs
  • RAG
  • Basic algorithms/concepts
  • Current industry trends and movement towards AI

AI/ML is not my primary domain,so he didnt dig deep into it

HR / Behavioral

The interview concluded with around 6–7 connected HR/behavioral questions.

The questions were not completely random; they were connected to my previous answers, so maintaining consistency in your answers was important.

Overall Experience

The overall interview was around 1 hour for R2 40 hour for R1 back to back and covered a wide range of topics.

The biggest takeaway for me was that the interview was not purely about memorizing definitions. The interviewers were interested in:

  • Understanding the fundamentals
  • Explaining the reasoning behind your answers
  • Project ownership
  • System-level thinking
  • Applying concepts to real-world scenarios
  • Communication and consistency

For anyone preparing for the Infosys interview, I would recommend focusing on Java + Spring Boot + DSA + DBMS + OS + CN + basic HLD, while also having a basic understanding of AI/ML, LLMs and RAG.
