I recently interviewed with Wise and wanted to share my experience so far. I found a few interview experiences online while preparing, so hopefully this helps someone else.

Round 1: Application

I applied for the Backend Engineer role and later received an Online Assessment.

Round 2: Online Assessment

The first technical step was an OA.

After clearing it, I moved to the HR/recruiter round.

Round 3: HR / Recruiter Round

This was primarily a discussion about my background and experience.

Some of the areas discussed were:

• My current role and previous experience
• The kind of backend systems I have worked on
• Why I was looking for a change
• Why Wise
• General expectations around the role and interview process

Nothing particularly tricky here, but I would recommend being clear about your experience and having a good answer for why you want to join Wise.

Round 4: Pair Programming

This was the most interesting round so far.

The main topic was the Circuit Breaker Pattern.

The discussion was not just about defining what a circuit breaker is. I had to think through the implementation and behavior of the pattern.

Overall, the round felt more like a practical backend engineering and pair-programming discussion than a typical LeetCode DSA problem.

My preparation takeaway

For anyone preparing for a similar Wise backend interview, I would recommend revising:

Circuit Breaker Pattern
Concurrency and thread safety
Go mutexes/channels if interviewing in Go
Retry and exponential backoff
Rate limiting
Idempotency
Failure handling in distributed systems
Your previous projects in depth

PS: Don't give me that its not round 1-2 for apply and OA. For me i feel, till the interview gets over everything is round. Peace.
