Hi Folks,

I recently interviewed at Modulr Finance for their Pune office. I couldn't find many interview experiences for this company online, so I'm sharing mine here to help others.

Profile & Process Details

• Role: Software Engineer (Backend)
• Years of Experience: 5+
• Location: Pune
• Process Timeline: 3-4 months in total (the timeline was extended due to a company hiring freeze in between).
• Verdict: Hired! 🎉

There were 4 rounds in total. Could vary

Round 1: Online Assessment (OA)

• Format: 3 DSA questions.
• Details: The first two were LeetCode Mediums related to Arrays, and the third was a LeetCode Hard.
• Experience: I don't remember the exact questions, but since I had been heavily preparing for Amazon, I found this assessment to be relatively easy. Within the given time frame, I successfully solved the first 2 questions properly but missed the 3rd one.

Round 2: Technical / LLD & Practical Code

• Format: Pair programming and technical discussion with 2 interviewers.
• Details: The round started with a discussion on how I approached and solved the OA questions. After that, they shared their screen and asked me to complete some existing Spring Boot code.
• Experience: This was one of the most practical interviews I've ever given. There were no Dynamic Programming puzzles. I would rate this as a Low-Level Design (LLD) round that strictly tests your hands-on Spring Boot knowledge.

Round 3: Hiring Manager & HLD

• Format: Behavioral, past experience, and System Design.
• Details: We discussed my current project, my usage of AI, the hardest technical problem I’ve solved, and my general approach to technical problem-solving. Following this, I was asked a High-Level Design (HLD) question: Design Zomato's Dine-in feature.
• Experience: The interviewer was really helpful and stepped in to guide me when required. Tip: I highly recommend practicing with draw.io for these virtual HLD rounds.

Round 4: People Team (HR)

• Format: Commitment and culture fit.
• Experience: The focus was on understanding my commitment to joining and walking me through the responsibilities I would take on. You might feel a bit of pressure in this round, but I think that is exactly what they are testing—how you handle stressful communication.

Tips for Candidates

• Tech Stack: Java and Spring Boot are an absolute must. If you haven't worked with this stack, it's highly unlikely you'll get a call.
• Prep overlap: I originally prepared for Amazon. While that didn't work out, the exact same knowledge and problem-solving skills were used to clear this interview.
