Role: OneStream Developer
Experience: 2 Years (.NET Developer)
Interview Mode: Direct Interview (No Online Assessment)

A recruiter reached out to me saying my profile had been shortlisted for a OneStream Developer role at Deloitte USI. Since my background is in .NET, I was a bit surprised, but they were looking for someone with strong C#/.NET experience who could quickly transition into the OneStream ecosystem.

The entire interview process consisted of three rounds spread over 3–4 weeks.

Round 1

The first round focused on core programming fundamentals, object-oriented programming, C#, SQL, and database concepts.

Some of the topics discussed included:

• Predicting the output of a C# code snippet involving assignment and operator evaluation order
• OOP principles
• Different types of classes in C#
• Inheritance in C# and language limitations
• Constructors and finalizers
• Exception handling (try, catch, finally)
• ACID properties
• SQL query to find the second-highest salary

The interviewer focused more on conceptual understanding than memorised definitions. If you're comfortable with C# fundamentals and SQL basics, this round should be manageable.

Timeline: Three days later, I received a call confirming that I had cleared the first round. The second round was scheduled two days after that.

Round 2

This round was more scenario-based and tested logical thinking along with SQL fundamentals.

The discussion included topics such as:

• Designing an approach to convert structured input into a tabular format
• Variable scope and usage
• SQL transformations using derived columns
• Combining data from multiple tables without common keys
• Joins vs. UNION and UNION ALL

Rather than asking direct theory questions, the interviewer was more interested in how I approached each problem and explained my reasoning.

Timeline: The result for this round took longer. I received an update after about two weeks, and my final interview was scheduled for the following Monday.

Round 3 (Techno-Managerial)

The final round was mostly conversational and covered:

• My current project and responsibilities

• Previous experience as a .NET developer

• Why I was interested in moving to a OneStream role

• Career goals and expectations

• General discussion about Deloitte USI and the role

Preparation Tips

If you're interviewing for this role, I'd recommend focusing on:

• C# fundamentals (OOP, constructors, inheritance, exception handling, object lifecycle)
• SQL basics (Joins, UNION, aggregation, ranking, and data transformation)
• Database fundamentals
• Problem-solving and explaining your thought process clearly
• Being able to discuss your projects confidently

They did not expect candidates to have prior OneStream knowledge. They were primarily looking for strong software engineering fundamentals and the ability to learn the platform.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the interview experience was smooth and conversational. The interviewers were friendly and gave me enough time to think through my answers.

Although the role was for OneStream Developer, the first two rounds focused almost entirely on general software engineering fundamentals rather than platform-specific knowledge. If you have a solid understanding of C#, SQL, databases, and can confidently explain your projects, you'll be in a good position for the interview.

I've intentionally kept the questions at a high level instead of sharing them verbatim, as I want to respect the interview process and any confidentiality expectations.
