eBay Interview Experience | Software Development Engineer 3 (SDE 3)

Round 1 (Online)

The interview started with a brief introduction and a discussion about my interests. The interviewer then asked me to explain my current project in depth, covering the complete end-to-end architecture, my responsibilities, and the technical decisions involved.

The round concluded with a medium-level coding problem, which I was able to solve successfully.

Round 2 (On-site)

This was a dedicated DSA round. After a short introduction, I was asked to solve two coding problems:

• A medium-level tree-based problem.
• A medium-level interval-based problem.

The focus was on problem-solving approach, time and space complexity, and clean implementation.

Round 3 (On-site)

This was a pure System Design round. The interviewer presented a problem statement related to an e-commerce platform, and I was expected to design the system from a high-level perspective. We discussed the overall architecture, key components, scalability, data flow, and design trade-offs.

Round 4 (On-site)

This was the managerial round. It turned out to be a very engaging discussion. I answered the behavioral and leadership questions with relevant examples from my experience. We also had an in-depth discussion about my current project, and the interviewer seemed satisfied with my responses.

Verdict: Rejected

Unfortunately, I was informed two days later that the feedback from the final round was negative, and my application was not moving forward. Naturally, I felt disappointed because I knew the interviews had gone well.

However, every interview is a learning experience. Sometimes, even when you feel you've performed well, the outcome may not be in your favor due to factors beyond your control. The key is to learn from the experience, keep improving, and move on to the next opportunity.
