Hi everyone,
I recently interviewed for the Associate Engineer position at IndiaMART Intermesh Ltd. and wanted to share my experience. Hopefully, it helps future candidates.
The OA allowed candidates to choose a domain (I remember options like ML, Frontend, Backend, and Full Stack).
It consisted of:
There were no DSA coding questions in my OA.
Before scheduling the interview, HR called and asked for my:
The eligibility they mentioned was roughly:
After clearing that, my interview was scheduled.
The interviewer first asked me to introduce myself.
Since I had internship experiences, most of the initial discussion revolved around my work. The interviewer went through almost every point mentioned on my resume and asked detailed follow-up questions.
A few conceptual DSA questions were asked:
These were discussion-based only. I was not asked to code them.
I was then asked to write code for reversing a string.
This was the most unique part of the interview.
I was given a problem statement and was allowed to use any AI tool such as ChatGPT, Claude, or Cursor.
However, the expectation was not to simply copy-paste the entire problem into the AI.
The interviewer wanted to evaluate:
Once the AI generated the code, the interviewer immediately started modifying the requirements:
This was mainly to test whether I actually understood the generated solution and could debug or extend it myself.
So the real evaluation was not just AI usage, but your ability to validate, debug, and modify AI-generated code under time pressure.
Although it was called an HR round, it felt more like another technical discussion.
The HR had around 20 years of experience and spent most of the time discussing my internships and technical work.
Interestingly, I wasn't asked the usual HR questions like:
The discussion remained largely technical.
After the interviews, HR requested a large number of documents for verification.
Once everything was submitted, my application went through internal approval.
About a week later, I received the offer letter.
Salary structure:
Approximate monthly salary:
One of the best parts of the offer is the iLead Program.
Every new joiner is automatically enrolled in this program.
Under the iLead Program, employees receive a guaranteed 10% increase in their base salary after each work anniversary for the first three consecutive years, independent of the regular annual performance appraisal.
This means that even if the annual performance appraisal is 0%, the base salary continues to grow every year through the iLead program alone. Starting from a ₹12 LPA base, this would increase to approximately ₹16 LPA after three years, before considering any annual appraisal or promotions.
Overall, I found the interview process quite interesting, especially the AI-assisted coding round. It wasn't about replacing programming with AI—it was about demonstrating that you know how to work effectively with AI while still understanding, debugging, and improving the generated solution.
