Continuing my interview experience series, this one is from Zomato.

💼 Role: SDE-1 (UI)
I applied by cold emailing a recruiter and was fortunate enough to get a response. The interview process consisted of 3 rounds and was heavily focused on frontend engineering fundamentals, React internals, performance optimization, and system design.
This was one of the most intensive frontend rounds I faced during my interview journey.
The interviewer covered almost every frontend topic imaginable:
The discussion was fast-paced, and the interviewer continuously jumped between concepts to test the depth of my understanding.
Result- Strong Hire ✅
This round was conducted on a Saturday and lasted approximately 1.5 hours.

After the frontend discussion, the conversation shifted toward system design.
I was asked to design Google Calendar and explain:
This turned out to be one of the most important rounds of the entire process.
Fortunately, the discussion went extremely well, and I was able to explain both the frontend and architectural aspects in detail.
Result- Strong Hire ✅
The final round was with the VP of Technology.
Unlike the previous rounds, this discussion focused less on coding and more on expectations, motivation, and long-term fit.

The interviewer was very transparent about the pace, ownership, and challenges involved in the role.
Towards the end of the discussion, he directly asked me if I was ready for the level of responsibility and expectations that came with the position.
It was a very honest and insightful conversation.
Result- Strong Hire ✅
