Hey everyone,
After a 1.5 year job hunt, I finally have two offers on the table, but the timing is incredibly tight.
Offer 1 (Signed): A tech role aligned with my primary skillset. I've already signed it, and the background check is currently wrapping up (about 75% done, a couple of days left).
Offer 2 (Pending): A specialized engineering role. The deadline to sign is tomorrow.
Long-term, Offer 1 pays significantly more (about a $30k total comp difference), but Offer 2 has an attractive niche title I've been wanting to pivot into, though the daily work is a bit different more frontend than what I normally do.
Two questions for the community:
Has anyone successfully asked for a deadline extension at the last minute? What is the best phrasing to use with the recruiter tonight/tomorrow morning without sounding like they are just a backup option?
Given that my signed offer's background check is almost done, would you sign the second offer as a safety net anyway, or just decline it if they refuse to extend the deadline?
Appreciate any advice on how to navigate the communication here!
