Need advice for D. E. Shaw Software Developer interview preparation

Hi everyone,

I recently cleared the HackerRank assessment for a Software Developer role at D. E. Shaw and have a virtual screening round coming up soon, followed by additional technical interviews if I clear it.

I'd love to hear from anyone who has gone through the D. E. Shaw interview process recently, especially for Software Developer / Software Engineer positions.

Some questions I have:

  • What was the virtual screening round like?
  • How much focus was there on DSA compared to CS fundamentals (DBMS, OS, Networking, OOP)?
  • What level of coding questions should I expect (LeetCode Easy, Medium, Hard)?
  • Were there any project deep-dives or system design discussions?
  • Which topics would you prioritize if you had 1–2 weeks to prepare?

From the recruiter email, the interview areas may include:

  • Data Structures & Algorithms
  • OOP and Class Design
  • DBMS, Operating Systems, Networking
  • Framework fundamentals
  • Troubleshooting and Problem Solving

Any insights, preparation strategies, commonly asked questions, or LeetCode lists would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!
