Joining Amazon as Support Engineer II

Hi everyone,

I'm a 2026 graduate (Tier 3 college ) and recently received a full-time offer from Amazon as a Support Engineer II after completing a 6-month internship there.
My compensation during the internship was ₹85,000 per month, and for the full-time role I have a base salary of ₹8 LPA along with a joining bonus of ₹2.8 lakh in the first year and ₹2.5 lakh in the second year. While I'm grateful for the opportunity, I'm honestly a bit concerned because the compensation is significantly lower than what SDEs at Amazon receive, and the role itself is not an SDE position.

My biggest concern is whether starting my career as a Support Engineer will limit my future opportunities. How do recruiters and hiring managers view Amazon Support Engineer experience, How difficult is it to transition internally or externally into an SDE or backend engineering roles .

Given the current job market, would it make more sense to join, gain experience, and try to switch later, or should I continue preparing aggressively for SDE roles elsewhere? I'd really appreciate insights from people who have worked at Amazon or have seen similar career paths.

Thanks in advance.
