I appeared for Atlassian Senior Software Development Engineer (P50) in Dec 2025 - Jan 2026 and here's the experience :-

R1 (DSA Coding) - Atlassian Tennis Court Booking Question with 2 follow ups

  • Fumbled a bit in between but recovered well and Was able to implement working code with JUnits and also explained how the follow ups can be implemented.
  • Veridct = P50 Hire (Medium Confidence)

R2 (Code Design) - Atlassian Middleware Router question (The interviewer forced me and insisted to implement it using Trie for which I wasn't prepared to be honest)

  • Was able to implement it after some struggle but due to a stupid bug in my code due to a typo (caused by IntelliJ auto-correct) made in hurry wasted my 5-7 minutes and I couldn't implement the follow ups.
  • Verdict = P40 Hire (Strong Confidence)

R3 (System Design) - Atlassian Web Crawler question

  • I thought I killed it because I prepared really well for it. Watched the HelloInterview WebCrawler tutorial for it and also prepared from ChatGPT.
  • I got to know from the detailed feedback that this interviewer down levelled me again which was pretty disappointing to be honest. He gave reason like I didn't ask enough claeifying questions and some other nonsense stuff. As a P50 candidate I thought I focussed on speed and covering depth and critical design choices instead of asking stupid clarifying questions like "Are we implementing web crawler? Ohh yeah, so it'll be a big distributed system with millions of pages", but the interviewer didn't seem to be much knowledgeable and he judged me based on the stupid checklist he might have had.
  • Verdict = P40 Hire (Strong confidence)

Recruiter reached out to me that since I got down levelled in 2 rounds I can either proceed ahead at P40 level or cancel my cadidature since I can't get P50 from here.

R4 (HM round with Senior EM) - Typical Techno-Managerial/Behavioral rounds. Please keep 1-2 fullproof story ready for each Atlassian Value.

  • Killed it
  • P40 Hire (Strong confidence)

R5 (Values round with Software Engineer) - almost same like previous, i checked with interviewer if she wants me to discuss the technical detals and she said yes because she was also an engineer. But make sure you don't unnecessarily go in technical depth if it's someone from Sales background etc. It's ideally a non-technical Values round only.

  • Killed it again
  • P40 Hire (Strong confidence)

Overall verdict from Hiring Committee (Around Jan 20) - P40 Hire

Right after this My team matching was about to start in a week or two but Atlassian went on Hiring Freeze due to the stock price crash and never recovered since then. In fact even laid of 10% employees later and there I officially gave up any hopes remaining and moved on and started interviewing for other companies.

Note/Learning - All questions were from past leetcode experiences. You have to setup an empty project in an IDE of your choice and write an extensible and clean working code (not typical leetcode style) along with JUnit test cases including follow ups asked. So please practice well (of course, only when they start hiring again) and also manage your time well during the interview.

  • Don't forget to ask those stupid clarifying questions even if so obvious and you're doing it just for the sake of it, but DO IT.

My personal final verdict - Don't think I will be joining Atlassian now at P40 if they come back to me again once they start hiring. Would rather apply and interview again for P60/P50 and give it a shot.
