Amazon System Development Engineer L4

I had total 5 rounds:

  1. Online Assessment
  2. DSA rounds
  3. Computer Networks and linux
  4. Hiring manager round
  5. Bar raiser

After my hiring manager round, recruiter told me you have good chance but 80% chances are that this porition will get closed by another candidate.

The recruiter told me that the Bar Raiser feedback was that they were expecting “more complexity level” in my interview performance. Because of that, the current team decided not to move ahead with me for this particular role.

However, he also said he is trying to place me into another SysDE role internally. According to him:

  • a new role may open in around 8 to 10 days
  • I need one additional Hiring Manager round for that role
  • he thinks I still have a good chance of getting selected

I told my recruiter that another recruiter had also reached out to me for a Senior Process Engineer (L5) role, but this recruiter advised against pursuing it and said that non-tech L5 is roughly equivalent to tech L4 in terms of leveling and compensation.

I am honestly confused about how to interpret all this.

On one side, it sounds like the original team rejected me. On the other side, the recruiter still seems interested in trying to place me elsewhere instead of closing the process completely.

Has anyone experienced something similar at Amazon?

  • Did it eventually lead to an offer?
  • Is this generally a positive signal or just recruiter optimism?
  • Does “BR wanted more complexity” usually mean near-hire or soft reject?
  • Do I still have chance? Or am I just being hopeless romantic for
    Amazon :)

Would appreciate honest opinions!
