I am starting with my interviews for Google L5, had one few days back last week. It was supposed to be a DSA round, Interviewer asked me a pretty simple coding question, which is a standard leetcode easy on arrays. I was a bit shocked that why was it easy, asked all the clarifying questions and finished code maybe in 15 mins.He said code looks good and he liked my code style and design choice.
I expected a followup, but he said he has another question more on internal implementation of data structure Hash. I wasnt prepared for it, missed a few things here and there. I feel I was unable to answer it in an acceptable way. Interviewer at 30 mins point (out of 45 mins) asked if I had some questions to him. Asked a few questions about the work and AI in general, he answered patiently and went on to say lets close the call if no further questions. I asked him not sure to be happy or sad about closing the call early(as i nailed the Algo question but on Data structure question it was bad). He mentioned we knowingly keep more time for screening interview for diverse set of applicants.
Havent been reached out by recruitor yet. Not sure if asking non=coding DS questions are also normal in Google. Anybody faced the same? What should I expect, not expeciting more than Lean hire honestly. Given I solved coding question correctly, can it be no-hire as well?
