I interviewed with Atlassian for Senior SDE role, passed the loop and got the offer. Sharing my interview experience to help others who are also preping

Coding Rounds 1

Route matching problem
The first question asked me write a funciton that manages booking for tennis courts. It has 3 parts, so make sure to go through the first part fast if you get this one.

The second part is about adding maintenance break in between booking, and the third part is additional usage tracking on top of your maintenance solution. It's not too hard but the interviewer focuses on how you design the solution so it's flexilbe to change for the new requirements of part2 and part3.

Coding Rounds 2

lowest common ancestor
The second question gave a company structure (tree) and asked for the closest common organization for a list of employees. It’s basically a lowest common ancestor problem, but you had to build the tree yourself and write test cases.

The interviewer also asked about possible extensions like adding/removing users or groups.

System Design

The system design round was about a tagging system similar to Atlassian's products like Jira or Confluence.

I walked through API design, data schema, storage choice, and discussed scalability and indexing trade-offs.

Behavioral

The behavioral rounds were focused on teamwork, problem solving, and past experiences with real examples. They also assessed how I approach ambiguity and collaboration.

How I preped for it

System design was not super complicated but expect to defend your choices. Practice talking through trade-offs out loud, whether to a friend or an AI.

For coding, I mostly used leetcode + offerretriever. I also use this leetcode discuss section to see which questions people share, and then try to find it on question bank sites like offerretriever or similiar sites which has a lot more details and example test case for the question.

For BQ, just remember to prepare many examples and concrete data with numbers. They might ask for detailed metrics that can show your impact which is important for determine your final level.

Happy to answer questions if someone else is interviewing for the same loop!
