Date of Interview — May 2024
This was the final round (Round 3) for the SDE-1 role, and the interview lasted about 1 hour.
The interview began with a brief introduction. Soon after, the hiring manager asked me to design a Chess game. The requirements were straightforward — model a normal chess game. The expectation was to create a class diagram and explain the data flow between the entities. We spent around 30 minutes on this discussion.
After the design round, we moved to resume discussion. The HM asked about my previous project at my current organization, which I explained in detail. He then asked about my personal projects — specifically the thought process and intent behind building them. I was able to explain the projects well, though I felt slightly stuck when articulating the deeper intent and motivation.
Towards the end, he also asked why I was looking to switch.
Overall, the interview went smoothly and felt conversational.
Verdict: I received a call from HR two days later confirming that I was selected for the SDE-1 role at Allen.
