Hi everyone,
I have an upcoming Backend Platform interview (Staff full-stack, backend-heavy).
The email mentions it will be a scenario-based round covering:
- System Analysis & Design – “Go beyond the obvious”
(identify gaps, assumptions, edge cases, trade-offs)
- Connectivity Management & Quality Assurance
(API comparison, resiliency, error handling, testing strategy)
- Code Review
(spot issues, suggest alternatives, provide constructive feedback)
- Communication & clarity of thought
- General backend best-practice questions
From what I’ve read online, some people say it’s a full system design question, while others describe it as more of a design discussion / critique session.
I understand it varies by interviewer and seniority, but I’d really appreciate advice from anyone who has gone through a similar round:
- What level of depth is expected at Staff level?
- How should I structure my approach during the interview?
- What differentiates a strong performance from an average one?
- What kind of sample questions or scenarios are commonly asked?
- What should I realistically expect during the session?
- What are the “must-do” things candidates should definitely cover to do well?
Thanks in advance!
