Previous Round: Online Assessment
Prior to this Technical Team Screen, I completed Online Assessment for the Software Engineer (New Grad) role as part of Stripe’s University Recruiting (India) process.
I’ve shared my detailed OA experience — including the assessment format, problem structure, key concepts tested, and takeaways — in a separate post here:

Technical Team Screen Interview

- Duration: 60 minutes
- Interviewers: 2 engineers (both based out of India)
- Platform: HackerRank (live coding)
The interview started with the interviewers clearly explaining how the session would proceed — a main problem followed by incremental follow-ups, focusing on reasoning, correctness, and code quality.
Flow of the Interview
-
Quick Introduction
A short introduction from my side, followed by a brief overview of the interview structure.
-
Main Coding Problem
- A long, real-world–inspired problem statement shared via HackerRank
- Focused more on backend-style logic and system thinking rather than textbook DSA
- Required careful interpretation of requirements and edge cases
- I coded the solution live and explained my approach step by step
- The solution passed the provided test cases
- Follow-up Question(s)
- A second problem building on similar concepts
- I was able to implement a working solution that produced the expected output
- Due to time constraints, the round ended before exploring further optimizations or additional follow-ups
-
Q&A
The interview concluded with time for questions, where I asked about:
- Team workflows
- Engineering culture at Stripe
- What they value most during technical evaluations
Key Skills Evaluated
- Translating ambiguous requirements into clean logic
- Writing production-quality code under time constraints
- Clear communication and explanation of thought process
- Handling edge cases and validating assumptions
- Staying calm and structured during follow-ups
Overall Experience
- Challenging but very well-structured
- Strong emphasis on clarity, correctness, and reasoning
- Very representative of Stripe’s engineering mindset
- Interviewers were professional, supportive, and transparent throughout
Result

Status: Rejection (Supposed to solve 3/3 questions in the given time limit but only able to solve 2/3 questions.)
Regardless of the outcome, it was a great learning experience and a solid test of real-world problem-solving skills.
