I recently interviewed at Motive for a Senior Software Engineer position, and I wanted to share my experience for anyone preparing for it.
Application & HR Screening
I applied through Motive’s career portal and was contacted by an HR representative for an initial screening.
The conversation was straightforward — general questions around:
• Current and expected compensation
• Reason for switching
• Why I’m interested in joining Motive
After this, the HR walked me through the process and mentioned that there would be 7 rounds of interviews in total.
Round 1: Hiring Manager Interview
This was the first round, and honestly, it turned out to be a disappointing experience.
The interviewer, an ex-Paytm employee, came across as quite unprofessional and seemed unprepared — he hadn’t even gone through my resume before starting the conversation.
The round began with a few behavioral questions, which I answered as best as I could. However, midway through, he suddenly asked me to code a Low-Level Design (LLD) problem — something I wasn’t expecting in a hiring manager round. I proceeded with the problem, but instead of discussing my approach, the interviewer started giving real-time feedback on OOP design choices in a rather dismissive tone.
Overall, the interaction felt unstructured and unprofessional — not the kind of experience I’d expect from a company like Motive. I genuinely hope the hiring manager receives feedback and takes steps to create a more respectful and professional interview experience for future candidates.
