I recently went through the E4 DoorDash interview process. Sharing my experience here:
Phone Interview - Code Craft Challenge
Similar to previous experiences shared by people. Aggregate API data for User, Address, Payment and print the same. However, few objects were nested objects, eg. Payment object containing list of Gift Card objects which had to be parsed. It was very lengthy. It took me initial 10 mins to only go through the API calls and understand what its doing.
Onsite
System Design + Domain Knowledge
For domain knowledge, they asked me one of my past projects and asked a lot of questions around it - who were the stakeholders, what was the most challenging part, what was the cause behind it, how much were you involved, the learnings you can take from the project, etc.
I believe confidence is the key here. The interviewer should feel like you had contributed vastly on the project and made an impact
For system design, Review on Food Items. It has been mentioned previously by others as well.
HM round
Manager asked me a lot about the current project I am working on, scale of the project, technologies I use, etc. He briefly talked about his team and what they do and asked my what I would be passionate about if I have to choose anything. Then he asked me about the past projects which I am proud of and why. He asked further questions on this - challenges I had, how did I resolve them, who were the stakeholders for the project. Then bit of general behavioral questions - Bug/Failure I made, Constructive criticism
Debugging
Find errors in a Round Robin algorithm. There was a List of Backend which had pods and status. For each request, had to parse through the list and return next available Backend. there were errors related to index not initialized properly, adding backend and an error in the test case assert itself. Interviewer then asked follow-up questions on optimizations.
Overall the interview seemed lengthy with limited time. I got a reject, I think I did well in the interviews - specially system design and debugging. The interviewer didn't have any more questions for me in the system design round and for debugging round, I was able to debug the code and fix errors within 20-25 mins of the interview. I am assuming the Hiring Manager had different expectations. Looks like they need you to excel in each round, since their interview format is very different.
So don't be sad even if you are rejected after performing well in interviews. The expectations might completely differ.
