Hi, so I just got done with my Karat screening round for Atlassian and found the interview experience to be quite unique.
The interview format was as follows:
- 5-10 min introductions
- 20 min System design/debugging discussion (5 questions with specific bottleneck scenarios)
- 30 min DSA
Here are the questions asked for design discussion :
- There is music streaming service where bands can upload their music and users can stream, it’s running on physical servers with load balancer redirecting request based on consistent hashing, any concern? And how to address it
- there is a crossword app, there are 2 approaches, fetch hints dynamically from server every time - or store hints once and they are stored in app, tell pros and cons of both
- there is a mechanism of uploading large xml files which are then processed and analysed, but but file upload for more than 2gb exhausts the RAM, how to address
- you run an app where user gives article link, app downloads the article and tells whether it is biased about a particular team, what factors would you consider in making budget for next 6 months
- there is a social app in college which matches the students with other students based on hobbies and interest, and now working very well in US, now expanding globally, what changes we need
And for DSA :
There is castle with rooms, some rooms are treasure rooms (list given) and you are given pairs { room1, room2} which means room1 leads to room2. Find the rooms which satisfy 2 conditions :
- Atleast 2 other rooms point to that room
- that room points to a room which leads to treasure rooms (I wasted some time here because i misunderstood the problem to return the room which itself has the treasure - so a little bit of time wasted on that)
Overall it was manageable time-wise, and i got through to the next rounds (LLD and DSA - both scheduled on same day).
