Swiggy Interview Journey - aSDE(Frontend)
I applied for the Associate Software Engineer – Frontend (aSDE) role at Swiggy. Soon after, I received a link for the Online Assessment hosted on HackerRank.
The OA had:
- 1 easy-level coding question
- A few JavaScript, HTML, and CSS questions – including one where I had to change the functionality of the Array.sort() method using prototype (fun one!).
- A tricky CSS-only task where you couldn’t touch the HTML or pre-written styles.
- And finally, a React mini-app – a counter with specific requirements that really tested your understanding of hooks, component structure, and core React principles.
I cleared the OA smoothly and within a few days, got a call from the HR to proceed with interviews.
🧪 Round 1: Frontend + JavaScript
This round was tough and technical. It started with:
- Implementing a debounce function (✅ done confidently)
- Deep dive into Promises, call, apply, bind
- Followed by medium-to-hard React questions covering hooks, lifecycle, optimization, and architecture.
I made it to Round 2: Managerial after a couple of days – but it kept getting rescheduled. Finally, after about 10 days, the round happened.
💬 Round 2: Managerial
Here, the focus was on behavioral and situational questions like:
- When did you face a major challenge?
- Any conflicts you resolved?
- Times you went the extra mile?
I answered them honestly and to the best of my ability. But I could sense that I wasn’t hitting the exact points the interviewer was looking for. Looking back, I now realize that I wasn’t fully prepared for the strategic storytelling and self-reflection these rounds demand.
Unfortunately, I didn’t make it through the final round — but I walked away with lessons more valuable than a job offer.
💡 What I Took Away:
Technical skills get you in the door, but soft skills and self-awareness take you through it.
Managerial interviews require a different kind of prep — one that I’ve since focused on.
