NVIDIA - Strange SSE interview experience

Recently interviewed at NVIDIA and had a rather unusual experience — sharing it here to know from others if they have been through similar scenario.

Round 1: A conversation with the hiring manager. Most of the discussion focused on my resume. In the last 15 minutes, I was asked to write a function to print a matrix in spiral order.

Round 2 (Technical Coding): Two problems in 45 minutes:

  1. Find the top N most frequent elements in an array
  2. Generate all permutations of a string

Then came the onsite (face-to-face) rounds:
Round 3: A mix of high-level and low-level design questions
Round 4: Deep dive into past projects
Round 5 (Cultural Fit): Focused on my previous experiences. Compensation came up multiple times — including my current CTC (~65 LPA) and questions around whether salary was a motivating factor for switching. Interestingly, comp-related questions were also asked in Round 4.

Overall, I felt the interviews went well, and I was able to answer most of the questions confidently.

But, a few days later, I received a rejection email.
While there was no specific feedback, my hunch is that compensation expectations may have been a factor.

Would really appreciate if anyone here can confirm whether NVIDIA usually offers more than ~65LPA at the SSE level — or if there might be other factors I’m overlooking.
