Hi Guys
I have Around 3 years of experience (Java,Spring Boot,Javascript),
Just Wanted To Share My Interview Experience for flipkart
I had Applied many times on linkedin through job section but never got the call , i saw recruiters google form in my linkedin feed , from there when i filled the information i got recruiters mail around 2-3 days for the
machine coding round no online assesment conducted (probably for the SDE-2 role)
Recruiter was very friendly before each round she called me for the next round availability and sent the mail for what was expected in that round

Round 1: Machine Coding - BNPL-Flipkart

  • half hour for the explanation of problem statement ,clearing the doubts , and what was expected
  • 1.5 hours for the LLD code writing
  • then we had to zip it and submit in the google form and interview of half hour was conducted later on the same day virtually to assess the code quality
  • i had used strategy pattern , singleton pattern and some interfaces

Round 2: Happened after nearly 1 week DSA round

  • usually this round has 2 dsa questions but i had done this 2 questions before time so 3rd question was asked as bar raiser
  • 1 merge k sorted lists
  • 2 koko eating bananas
  • 3 search in rotated sorted array
  • we had to write on white board(google doc) with dry running the test cases
  • interviewer was friendly, he was impressed and said good as feedback

Round 3: System Design BookMyShow (my first system design interview)

  • it was more focused towards schema design/Api endpoints
  • i went with functional and non functional requirements
  • had back n forth questions
  • around search functionality how would that work
  • don't jump to elastic search (first go with sql like only explain this properly i would suggest)
  • i had watched the ticketmaster(hellowinterview) problem
  • but when interviewer asked questions those were out of the box for me
like how would you ensure seat avalailbilty (as the seats would be given
by pvr or other third parties)
  • how would you make sure locking with this seats (as the seats are with pvr)
  • how would you reduce the continuous hitting the apis of pvr for seat availibility
i knew i had messed up this round so i didn't expect mail or call from recruiter

after two weeks i got call from the recruiter that your system design interview was poor but previous rounds were good , so we want to re-evaluate

Round 4 (re evaluation for the round 3) --> again bookmyshow question

(i thought there would be other question apart from bookmyshow so i practiced on that)
--> here i improved my schema design from pervious rounds

  • so asked what would be the first api that would be hit what would be the response (what happens when user lands on the page )
-- but i couldn't answer question how would be the schema design for movies/events/other shows
-- how would their schema would look like
  • can it fit in current schema design or need to create parallel similar schemas
  • my schema (1-2 table were failing in events architechture ) i said, i will go with parallel approach
  • same above i was asked how to reduce the api calls to third party
  • my main concern was we need to hit their api for locking/if it the seats are booked or not , i couldn't think of any other approach
  • also how would the bookmyshow know the some of the seats are booked (as user can book from the other sites too , how can we check that in real time)--> i could think of batch/job process only
  • another question was the i had seat_availaibilty table in my schema design with each show the number of entries would be big corresponding to seats and show , he asked me what to do with these data then)

no mail/calls from recruiter till now
overall process happened in april 2025

i am poor in system design so i am currently practicing system design problems

i would love your approaches for the bookmyshow , and can you please answer above questions for the bookmyshow HLD,
can you suggest some articles or source materials for further improvements

Thanks

Best of luck for your interview journey for the flipkart
