Hi Everyone , recently i had the chance to give interview of Oracle OCI for the SMTS (UI)/SDE3.
I will be sharing my expereince below , so that it would be helpful for the community.
Recruiter reached out to me on Linkedin and told if i am open to UI role in Oracle. i showed interest and shared my resume. After 3-4 weeks , i got a call from that recruiter that we can proceed with interviews.
Round 0 : (Screening Round) : First 15 mints interviewer grilled me on my resume and past project experiences and all. After that he asked few ReactJS basic questions like hooks (useState, useContext) , since i had more expeirence in Angular , i couldn't answer few questions related to React. Then he moved to javascript questions about Promises/Async Await,Event loop and told me to write debounce function in vanilla JS. i was able to do it. Then he asked different ways to increase the performance of my application. i gave answers of what i know (Lazy Loading , Image compressing , Minifying JS etc.)
This round was elimination round.
Suprisingly here , i had prepared DSA , since most of the oracle interview screening round are focused on DSA.
Luckily , After 2-3 days , i got a call that we can go ahead with loop interviews.
Loop Interviews:
Round 1:(Hiring Manager): This round was really challenging. It started with introduction of 10 mints , then she moved on to project specific questions and all. Based on my resume. Since i mentioned ReactJS for couple of months only as my experience , she asked me if i am comfortable with working in React , since my experience was mostly into Angular. Then she asked few behavioral questions like , how i handled conflict in team. Most challenging work i have done , and its impact to the customers. Coding standards i follow. How i update myself to new technologies. There were many questions on which i was grilled and lot of followup questions was asked , based on my answers. Then in last 5-10 mins i asked few general questions about team and culture.
Round 2 : (Technical - with PMTS) : This round started with introduction and some questions related to project and my day to day work. How i keep upskilling my self and what new technology i have tried recently and all.
After this he told me to share screen and asked 1 DSA question (Medium Level) related to BST. I shared my approach , unfortunetely i was not able to solve it , could only give half solution. After this last 5 mints , i asked him few questions about project.
Round 3 : (Director of Engineering) : This round started with project-based questions for 15 minutes. Then, he asked me which is better—Angular or ReactJS—and why. He also asked when to choose one over the other. After that, he asked me what the Virtual DOM is in React and why ReactJS is needed—whether we can achieve the same functionality with vanilla JavaScript. I shared my thoughts on these topics.
Next, he asked me about data binding in ReactJS. This discussion lasted for about 5 minutes as we explored the concept in detail. He then moved on to a few questions, such as whether I had ever fixed a critical issue that could have impacted production and what the most complex task I had worked on was. There were many follow-up questions based on my responses.
Then, he asked me to create an architectural diagram of my project. I used draw.io to present it, and he asked a few related questions. The discussion then shifted to scalability—specifically, how I would handle the load if 10 million users accessed my application simultaneously. He didn't seem satisfied with my answer.
We wrapped up the round with some questions I had about work-life balance at Oracle.
Round 4: (PMTS) : As all rounds above this also started with some questions related to my resume for 10-15 mints. Then he asked me how would i implement URL shortner application. How will i communicate to backend. THis was the typical System design question. I asked him few questions before moving to telling my approach. Then i started with UI and request json and backend and how will i handle or convert the Big URL to short and how it will be stored in database. He asked me many questions in between on why i chose this ? why can't i use this?
After all this , he told me to write logic for shorting the URL. Like a function should take long URL and convert it into short one. i told the pseudo code and he seems okay.
Verdict : Pending !!
will update if incase i get offer.
