- Connected components + DFS related question. Coded optmised solution in first 20 mins
- Question related to prefix sum. Provided bruteforce solution. Required some hints from the interviewer to reach the optimised solution. Just finished in 30 mins.
Recruiter reached out after a week and infomed about the next round.
Round 2 - Database - 60 minutes - Nov 2024
This round focussed only on datastores and it's internals.
- What's the most challenging project/feature you've worked on?
- How would you carry out database migration, from one SQL vendor to another SQL vendor. (reply: 2 parallel writes, distributed transactions)
- 2 phase commit - is it really practical? how would you handle coordinator failure?
- Database sharding strategies
- Database Replication problems, how to deal with leader failure, discussion on eventual consistency.
- How does book my show prevent 2 users from selecting the same seat? Discussion on isolation levels.
- Scaling out an overloaded kafka queue. How would you know the queue is under load? How would you lessen the load - rebalancing strategies. (bombed here :P)
Was surprised at how much in-depth they expected the answers to be.
Recruiter reached out after a week and informed of next rounds to be conducted in person in Mumbai office. Flights to and fro arranged for the same day.
Round 3 - onsite rounds in Mumbai - Nov 2024
Round 3.1 - system design - 90 minutes
Design a stock broker. You figure out the requirements (functional/non functional), expected load, concurrency, resiliency and proceed.
Every design choice was faced with critical WHYs and HOWs and alternatives. Interviewers had great technical know-how.
Round 3.2 - HM round - 45 minutes
Resume based questions, discussion on SDLC lifecycle, scenario based questions
Round 3.3 - HR - 30 minutes
General discussions on life, CTC expectation, etc
