I finished my virtual onsite interview today for a "Software Engineering - Product" position. Sharing my experience to give back to the community.
I found the interview process structured and very well-organized. The interviewers were among the most professional I have ever seen in the industry.
System design: I was asked to design a system to add some features to Instagram. The question was brand new to me, unlike any other I have ever seen, and I had to really think about the system during the interview and build it. By the way, this is exactly how a system design interview is supposed to be!
My suggestion: don't try to see and remember many examples. Instead, try to "solve" a few. They really tested my critical thinking capabilities during the interview, and not my memory at all. So try to work on your problem solving skills.
Coding questions: I was asked 4 questions in total and all of them were medium. None of them were crazy, or unreasonable. None of them needed more than 10-15 lines of code. The interviewers were there to help if I needed anything. It wasn't like an exam - it really felt like solving a problem together.
Behavioral: It was a friendly and easy discussion. I was asked about previous projects, previous experiences, lessons I have learned from others... I believe they were looking for examples of spesific actions I have taken in the past that alligns with their culture and values. Try to have an example prepared alligen with each of their values.
I have had interviews with FAANG many times during my career. So far Meta has been the best, and Microsoft has been the worst.
