SAP does not have a standardized interview process for developers. The sequence of interviews depends on the division of SAP you are interviewing with (Concur, SuccessFactors, SAPLabs, Ariba, etc.). The interview questions are chosen by the interviewer, and I have seen people have completely different interview experiences when applying for the same role.
Divisions that were acquired more recently (ex. Qualtrics) tend to be faster and more flexible than older divisions or SAP corporate. Expect the hiring process to take 2-3 months with most divisions.
Tips to Get Hired:
- If you aren't hired by one division of SAP, don't see that as a rejection from SAP in general. Each division is like a separate company, losely joined under the SAP name.
- Search for positions on the Careers site, but before applying, try to find someone through Linkedin that works in the specific division you want to apply for. If they refer you, it's much easier to get an interview. Ask about the work culture in that specific division.
Salary Negotiations:
- Negotiate to get the highest possible starting salary. Raises are very small, and are percentage-based.
- Items that can be negotiated:
- Sign-on bonus
- Title / tier level (Developer 1,2,3 with 3 being highly experienced senior dev)
- Work location / remote work (depends on division, and they may not commit up front)
- Items that can NOT be negotiated:
- Vacation time
- Stock: they have a stock matching program, available to all roles. Only executives can negotiate stock options.
- They state the offer as "total compensation", and that includes a bonus that is not garunteed. Clarify what is salary vs. bonus.
Sponsorship:
- Sometimes offers sponsorship to work in US and other countries, but employee must work for SAP locally for at least a year first
