This has been the worst interview experience of my life. I had my third round of interviews with TikTok Singapore for the position of ML Engineer (I'm based in North America).
The interviewer showed up late and unprepared. He hadn't even read my resume before the interview. And he didn't introduce himself.
He asked right away if I spoke Chinese (given my Chinese last name). I explained that my Chinese proficiency isn't very strong, but he still inquired if we could proceed in Chinese. I had to clarify that I preferred an English session.
Midway through the interview, he suddenly switched to asking a technical question in Chinese. While I understood his question, I responded in English, prompting him to switch back. This incident made me extremely uncomfortable.
When I explained the machine learning model I had used and the various variations I was aware of, he arbitrarily focused on one model he knew. He didn't even know the full name of the model he was asking about and had to Google it during the interview. I could have done the same. When I mentioned that I wasn't familiar with the specific model (Moco), his response was condescending, saying, "You didn't know?" He fixated on a narrow aspect of my summer internship experience which was 3 years ago. He didn't ask any questions related to my experience in my current role working on Language Models.
Toward the end of the interview, he asked if I had any questions. After responding to my first question, he abruptly ended the call without even saying goodbye. I hadn't finished asking my questions. This couldn't be more weird.
I had coding questions in my first two rounds. This third round, he didn't ask any coding questions during the interview.
The interview result hasn't came out yet, but I can tell that I'm not gonna past the third round because of his discriminative behavior during the interview.
