There were 4 virtual onsite rounds (QUESTIONS NOT DISCLOSED):
Round 1 - Googlyness (was dececnt)
Rond 2 - Solved, optimal solution + code
Round 3 - Solved, but not the cleanest of solutions. Time complexity was not an issue. I discussed first approach (which wasn't the best), and mid way thought of something that could lead to the optimal solution, but interviewer asked me to go with the former approach. Coded it with extra space. Solution was correct, but used extra space (I did this to have a cleaner and more correct code).
Round 3 - optimal solution + clean + correctly answered follow up questions. Interviewer was pretty impressed and conversation went past interview.
Recruiter told my packet was given to HC.
After a couple of weeks, recruiter asked me for my transcript.
After a few more weeks gave me a team matching link.
No response for a week or 2 and finally received rejection call - around 2 months after interview.
They never told me if HC was pass or fail.
Another month later got call from Google recruiter, for another role, not SWE. Had one interview with hiring manager and one role specific technical round. Got the offer. Wasn't happy since got rejected for SWE.
About me - I'm 2400 on leetcode, ~1000 solves and ~1000 solves on codeforces. and have decent communication skills. Practiced a lot before the interview, did 2 paid mock interviews. Still got rejected.
Learning-
So practicing coding isn't everything. Talent, luck and your overall development matters too, which is inborn/built throughout the years.
For all those who have an interview coming up and are grinding leetcode, chill out. Practice at a steady pace, don't obsess over problems. Stressing/Obsessing will only blunten your brain. Being calm, observant and sharp is best for you. Do what is in your capacity and attend the interview - you either get it or you don't, don't worry about the decision.
