Microsoft Engage is a Mentorship program conducted by Microsoft every year for sophomores and final year students in which mentors are allocated to the shortlisted candidates. Mentees are expected to solve some real life problem statement in a given period of time, generally a month. You can learn more about this program here.

I was offered a chance to get interviewed with Microsoft for the role SWE Intern. Below is my experience:

  • The interview was conducted on Microsoft Teams.
  • It started off by the introductions of myself and the interviewer. He was really calm and chill.
  • He asked me about workings and Time Complexities of Sorting algorithms such as Quick Sort and Bubble Sort.
  • He then asked about implementation of Snakes and Ladder game using arrays.
  • He then asked about validating a game of Sudoku.
  • He gave me a coding problem, and a link of Codility where I was expected to solve the problem. Problem Link here. I was supposed to solve the problem from stratch, like building a Linked List, adding nodes, etc.
  • Then he asked about Operating Systems, concepts such as Paging, Virtual Memory, Schedulling Algorithms.
  • He then asked if I had any questions for him. I asked some questions and then he wrapped up the interview.
  • The interview lasted for around 50 minutes.

After 2 days, result came and I was selected for the final round (AA round).
