I was doing a few interviews recently and found the whiteboard on zoom was a bit tricky to get correct. I tried a few diagram drawing tools and had some success so I want to share some tips here in case other people also need it.

The tool I found most efficient and professional to draw system design diagrams is draw.io (https://app.diagrams.net/). It is free and you can draw pretty much anything with it. I’ve used it to draw hundreds of diagrams for my online book and course (http://www.systeminterview.com/). It’s always nice to see system diagrams with the right representation.

I’ve compiled a list of most commonly used system design components in a template. If you are interested, feel free to drag/drop or copy/paste any of the components to your design diagrams.
