I came across an interesting interview question recently and I was wondering to see what design approach other people would utilise for this problem.

The question is simple, "If you had to design the London Travel Card system (Oyster) from scratch, how would you do so.". This question is obviously open ended to encourage discussion. I'm curious to see what approach other people would use.
