I was asked this question during a mock interview.
Question:
Amazon has millions of shipping order today and there are thousands of shipping fullfillment center across the country. Each order has a deliveralbe date and shipping address. Each fullfillment center has a fleet with two different type vehicles, diesel and electric trucks. Diesel has no range limit but electric truck has range limit.
Design a fullfillment center that will deliver orders in time and lower the cost. Also the fullfillment center can be scaled from thousands to tens of thousands to fullfill more orders.
What I got:
I got stucked that I felt that this problem is fairly big. My approach is this is like bidding system, where the fullfillment center will be put there capacity for bid. However, I wasn't able to break this down to small components in time.
Any advice would be appreciated.
