Initial recruiter phone-screen question:

Given a list of users who only share their height (in cm) and gender on their profile,
how would you test the hypothesis that men on average are taller than women?

(I'm not a statistician and I rambled about null hypothesis, average, bayes, p-value, t-test etc. from my undergrad)

What answer is the recruiter told to expect from candidates ? and how do statisticians actually do this process ?

From the recruiter's tips on what to expect in interviews - Statistics & ML:
*1. Basic statistics concepts (hypothesis testing, statistical inference, linear/logistic regression, general experimentation practices and interpretation of data).

  1. Basic ML concepts (bias-variance tradeoff, overfitting) and models (classification, regression, decision trees and ensembles, clustering methods, training models, performace evaluation)*

Does anyone have a simple refresher material for above topics ?
