I applied directly through the BlackRock careers page and received an invite for the first round shortly after.
Round 1: Technical Round (DSA and Problem Solving)
Duration: 1 hour
The interview began with a brief introduction and discussions around my projects and work experience.
The interviewer then gave me a DSA problem: Find an element in a rotated (pivoted) sorted array – an extension of binary search.
We discussed the logic, edge cases, and optimizations for the solution.
Following this, there were OOPs-related questions covering topics like:
- Objects and memory allocation in Java.
- Differences between Strings, StringBuilder, and StringBuffer.
- General concepts of Java memory management.
Round 2: Technical Round
Duration: 1 hour
This round was more focused on my experience and projects. The interviewer dove deep into:
- Advanced threading concepts in Java, including concurrency and multithreading.
- Practical scenarios involving thread safety and optimizing concurrent processes.
Since the interviewer was a Software Developer with a strong background in Chartered Accountancy (CA) and Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), there were questions related to finance and banking. However, I realized that my understanding in this domain was quite limited, which was a drawback during the discussion.
Verdict: Rejected ❌
