A CS ph.d student graduating soon
Overall, it was indeed a great experience

  • Sent my CV directly to the team leader
  • They were interested in my research topics
  • I had a call with him and his manager

I didn't know that this is a part of inteview process until the call, but he said it is a phone screen.
The call was scheduled to be about 1 hour long. But we had talked for about 1 hour and +30~40 minutes

I explaiend my research topics and they asked tons of interesting and good questions!
They pinpointed some weak parts of my papers as well!
The guys were extremely kind and great

No coding question is asked

At the end, the manager asked me if I had any question
I asked some like the teams locations, is it research team or product team?
and some other academic questions

He answered kindly and also explained the positive sides of the applied scientist role
(this is the point I realized that I am applying for the applied scientist role)

I guess, the interview process seems to be somewhat different from the others that I have read in this forum (For example, most interviews spend only about 30 minuts in phone screen)
I have never talked with a recruiter till now
Is it a normal process for applied scientist role in Amazon?

Thanks
