Status: New Grad MS CS Top 40 CS School
Position: Member of Technical Staff at Oracle
Location: Redwood, CA

Senior recruiter reached out to me on LinkedIn, found me through the Grace Hopper Celebration Spotlight. Asked me to apply to open positions in multiple different organizations, and asked for my top 2 preferences later to schedule interviews.

Phone screen (30 minutes)

  • Behavioural questions
  • Questions regarding what technical skills I possessed

Round 1 - OAD - Technical (1 hour)

  • Write a program that takes as input a set of dictionary words and fits them all in matrix of given size, such that all the words in the matrix are readable.
    If you're confused about this one, so was I. Had a lot of back and forth with interviewer about what exactly he wanted me to do, but could not come up with fully functional solution in given time. I though I totally bombed that one.

Round 1 - OAC - Technical (1 hour)

Reached out to recruiter after a week, both orgs wanted to move forward to final round interviews!

Final Round - OAC - 3 interviews, 1 hour each (back-to-back)

  • First interview
    • 2 aptitude questions
    • Few SQL related questions
    • One Hashmap based question
    • Questions about past projects
  • Second interview
  • Third interview
    • Basic questions about ML as I'm a TA for an ML class
    • Implement a linked list which is always sorted (add element in correct order and return newly created node)
    • Questions about past projects

Final Round - OAD - 3 interviews, 1 hour each (back-to-back)

  • First interview
    • Questions about past projects
  • Second interview
    • Rotate array
    • Design an instant messaging application, eg. WhatsApp
    • Questions about past projects
  • Third interview
    • Design a file system
    • Questions about past projects

The system design questions threw me off a little, since I wasn't expecting them for a new grad role (based off of people's reviews).

Reached out the the recruiter after a week, she asked me to rank which teams I would like to get an offer from. Responded with the ranking, followed up after two days and was verbally extended an offer from my first preference team. Got the offer letter three days later.

I've seen people talking about having solved 500-600 LC questions prior to interviews, which honestly scared me. I would recommend being consistent with practice instead, solving 1-2 questions everyday and noting what you did right and wrong. I was also really fortunate to have had really nice interviewers, who were genuinely interested in bringing me on their teams (barring 1 dude).
