I passed all tests cases in the OA and was automatically passed to the virtual onsites. I was given a month to prepare, the recruiter that I had was an absolute legend and walked through everything from beginning to end including talking through the Leadership Princples.
Interview was standard Amazon
R1: Half behavioural & System Design around multiple accounts with Amazon devices
R2: Half behavioural & HashMap question - easy/medium
R3: Half behavioural & HashMap question - very easy, the focus was more around code quality
R4: Half behavioural & Mathsy question - medium/hard
I passed all the technical screens but failed because I didn't have much "stakeholder experience". I have previously worked at a consultancy and when I was on internal a lot of the products I built were then dropped; I don't think Amazon liked this. I was warned to have 8-10 stories to share for the behavioural questions and I struggled to gather that many. I have also worked on the same project for the past 2.5 years. It's said in every Amazon post but they really emphasise the LPs.
I actually really enjoyed the experience. I asked all of my interviewers about PIP culture and they said that it did exist but wasn't as prevalent as it is in the US. Was advised to email the recruiter directly in a year with more experience and have since accepted an offer with Spotify London :)
Preparation:
About 12 months of algo prep. First 3 months were a bit half arsed using InterviewCake. Then in March lockdown happened and I was doing 4-5 problems a day. I burnt myself out and went back to doing only one or two problems a day which was when things really started clicking. Averaging 2 problems a day, focusing on a wide range of problems and ensuring that you revisit problems is the key to getting really good at algorithms. I was terrible a year ago, now I am passing technical bars.
A month before onsites I started system design prep using Systems Design Primer and SystemsExpert. I passed all of my system design onsites.
