I got a few job offers recently so I want to share my experience. My background: 6 years of industry experience and senior software engineer in my current company. The roles I interviewed with are also senior software engineer roles.

I started interviewing because I was not happy in my current company and got some recruiter calls from Linkedin. So I thought about just preparing for interviews and looking around to see what was out there. It turned out to be quite good because more companies were hiring during the pandemic than I had expected.

I prepared for 5 months while working "full time" (I did not work much on my full time lol). I found these materials were particularly helpful:

Coding:
Leetcode: this is all I did. I found no other places needed because this had the most comprehensive list. I did around 650.

System design:
I failed 2 or 3 companies before I took this interview very seriously. This was my weakest spot. After I prepared this a lot, I almost passed all the following companies' interviews. I'm a book person and found the following two books very helpful:

• System Designer Interview - an Insider's Guide: This is a fairly new book and I never heard of it before I saw it on Amazon. It turned out to be much better than I have expected. My overall experience:

• Interviewing through Zoom didn't come naturally. I felt very awkward in the beginning but got better over time. The whiteboard feature was your friend so master it.
• Both preparation and luck play important roles. What we can do is preparation and it definitely pays off.
