Experience with the process

First of all, these kind of posts were really helpful with my process with Bloomberg, I have no work experience whatsoever, only personal projects. I did like 200 Leetcode questions in preparation for the interviews.

When I applied I was contacted within hours for a phone interview with an engineer for the next week (you can choose the day btw).

Phone Interview

  • Introduction about yourself and chill conversation with a Bloomberg Engineer. The interviewer was nice.
  • I was only asked one question (which I was surprised, because usually they ask two)
    • The question was similar to LRU cache (LinkedLists with HashMap).
  • I was able to solve it in 25 min and the rest was talking about real world scenarios etc.

Really nice experience overall, I was pretty nervous and sad when I was doing the interview because on that same day I was rejected by Stripe.

On Site Coding Interview

On next day I was sent an email by a recruiter saying that I passed to the next round! I was so happy, I purchased Leetcode premium so I can go through the Bloomberg question list. I concerted the interview for the next week.

On the onsite you are interviewed by 2 interviewers, they were pretty nice and easy to talk to.

  • Introduction about yourself.
  • I was asked only one question (again, I was surprised).
    • The question was similar to Merge Intervals.
  • Solved in 20~25 min and the rest was discussing other approaches, optimizations, testing... I was put on the limit in that regard.

On the next day I was confirmed that I got into the next round, which was a Systems Design interview by a senior engineer. I prepared for it a lot. I concerted it for the next week.

Systems design interview

Super nice interviewer, really good mood overall and the best one yet.

  • This question was about designing a mobile application, you discussed about the components of the application, you had to code the interfaces and high level implementations of critical parts.
  • You have to be prepared to discuss and answer lots of questions, I really recommend explaining your thought process because the interviewer can know more about you and your way about approaching problems.

Nice experience and I thought I could pass to the next round.

I was approached next day for concerting a behavioural round, I didn't expect an answer so early! I scheduled the round for next week.

Behavioural interview

I had 3 interviewers on the same call, one was just muted and in the background hearing, and the others were a manager and a recruiter.
They were all really nice, to be honest I really like Bloomberg's interviewers because I didn't face any rude ones yet.

  • Standard behavioural interview about your interest of Bloomberg, why do you wanna join...
  • I recommend researching a bit about the company for this round.

Overall good experience and I hope I can get an offer :).

Background about me

I applied last year and passed on site, but was destroyed on coding rounds so I prepared for this year quite a bit.

If you wanna apply I really recommend doing the leetcode questions under the tag Bloomberg, it will give you more confidence.

After 2 days I got a rejection email, they provide feedback.

EDIT:

Basically the feedback was that in the HR round I didn't show much interest (lol) in the company and that my answers were generic and that I didn't go deep in... So sad that I was actually so close and they thought that even though they told me that I showed much interest in the rest of the rounds. They told me they were quite impressed in the technical side but I just did bad in the HR round... So you must REALLY prepare your answers for this interview :|
