Background
Working as software engineer at a trading firm with around 1.5 years experience. Solved 384 questions, with on and off preparation over 2 years.
Google Phone (Reject)
Recruiter has been in touch over the last 2 years. This was the third time for another Phone. Never been to onsite including this one. I thought I was well prepared, but interviewed with youtube team. Honestly, I feel I shouldn't have done this. Youtube is one of the hardest teams to get into at google.
Also did the foo bar challenge to get the interview call this time. Just kept googling foo bar, and signing up with my email, got the challenge after around 1.5 months. If you solve 3 questions, you're guaranteed a phone screen.
Phone -
Write the compiler for the language which has following set of rules (I don't remember the exact rule since its been 3 months I interviewed) -
1) T(N) - *,-,/,+
2) F(N) - function of T(N)
Example -
1) ( (( ( + 5) ab)) ) -- Answer will 5. Ignore spaces, non numeric numbers.
2) ( + 5 5 5 ( - 10 ) ( ( ( + 2 2 ) + 2 ) ) ) - 11
Thought it similar to below but couldn't solve it.

This was an interesting case. First, the recruiter reached out for normal Software Engineer role, and I applied, but got rejected without an interview. Following has, had a referral but same outcome.
It was quite unbelievable since its very unheard of getting reject once the recruiter reaches out and asks you to apply, without a phone interview/assessment.
After this, was just chilling and had received an amazon reject when I applied for a Senior engineer role. Recruiter reached out and scheduled a phone interview. Also, told me another team is hiring, and scheduled a phone interview for that also. This was again surprising since I just have over an year of experience, and don't think myself to be a fit for Senior engineer. Went ahead anyway.
Phone with both teams -
2 Onsites with each team -
Gave a heads up to second team regarding the previous questions I've been asked by the other team, so as to avoid duplicates. I think that showed good also.
Recruiter reached out after a week. They generally reach out within 2 days if its an offer, so I thought nothing good is coming. However, the feedback was design was weak but problem solving was good, so they'd like me to come as normal Software engineer and not Senior.
Accepted the offer.
