OA: 2 LC mediums + code explaination + behavior survey
On site: 4 rounds. Each round has LP questions for the first half of the interview. 3 rounds with 3 LC mediums, and 1 round with a high level system design.
Location: Seattle
YOE: 2
TC: 240k

Preparing for technical questions:

  • All the questions are similar to the Amazon tagged questions. I highly recommend subscribing to LC premium. I used the "mock" feature religiously. I suggest practicing talking out loud when solving a problem, and timing yourself. Mark the problem that you could not solve in the time limit, then try solving it again, until you get it.
  • For system design, I just watched a lot of youtube videos of mock system design interviews. If it has any concept that I don't know (i.e. map reduce, networking concepts, etc), I would learn it.
  • I used C++ for my past interviews, and it took a lot of time to whiteboard with C++. I highly recommend Python for whiteboarding, as it is compact and will save you a lot of time.

Preparing for behavioral questions:

  • Amazon's LP questions are accounted for 50% of the interview. Honestly I didn't prepare much. For me, I just had a list of features/products that I helped launch successfully in the past, and went off from there. Like how I interacted with people, what I did when something went wrong, what I did when someone disagreed with me, what I did when I went above and beyond the expectations, etc.
  • Do not make up stories, as the interviewer will dig deep.

Honestly, I think I am just lucky. I have applied to hundreds of jobs, failed a lot of phone screens, and got to the final round twice (failed one, and passed one for my current job at a no name company). With the lockdown it's been easier for me to practice LC, I've done around 400 questions since March. I usually do one before I go to bed. I think if you just keep on practicing and learning from your failed attempts, you'll get it eventually.
