Background: 1.5 YOE , MS in CS
Position: Interviewed for L5 - was offered L4
Location: Seattle
Call: Recruiter reached out to me on LinkedIn.
Online Assessment: Took the OA within 2 days of getting the call. Both questions are from Top 50 Amazon Questions on LeetCode. Able to solve both of them. All test cases passed for first one and 14/17 passed for the second one .
Virtual Onsite and Prep: Scheduled virtual onsite 45 days after clearing the OA. Rigorously practised LeetCode. Completed 90% of both Top 50 Amazon questions and Amazon explore card. Used famous resources for both System Design and OOD practice. For LP's, made a lot of effort in writing down scenarios, lots of mocking with help of friends and decided to make scenarios as close to my experiences as possible so that I will be able to answer any follow up questions on them.
I had 4 rounds of interviews.
Round 1: LP, System Design.
Prepared from the famous resource for System Design. The question that was asked was not from it, I was able to come up with something using the examples I have learnt and the interviewer was quite impressed.
Round 2: LP, Object oriented design.
Was asked something which I haven't seen before. I was able to comeup with a design. Interviewer helped me in understanding the requirements well and seemed satisfied with the final output.
Round 3: LP, DS and Algos
This was the bar raiser. Grilled to core on the LP's . Was asked an "easy" question from LeetCode. It wasn't an amazon tagged question. But one can come up with the solution if we prepared most of the the amazon tagged ones. Discussed few possible ways to solve the problem and proceeded with the approach which the interviewer approved of. Overall this round also went well.
Round 4: LP,Object oriented design.
This is the one I flunked a bit.
Was asked LPs first. I was then hoping for one more coding question but it was another OOD question. similar to a famous frequently asked Amazon OOD , but not the same. I was having hard time understanding the requirements but able to come up with a satisfying answer initially. The interviewer later asked a follow up on that , I couldn't understand mostly because of communication boundaries and time constraints. The interviewer was patient enough trying to explain me the follow up, but due to time we had to close.
Overall, It was a great experience. All the interviewers were friendly. Most of them gave chance to ask them questions at the end. I asked few questions about workculture etc.,
Got a call from HR saying I was being selected for L4 instead of L5 . Feedback was that LPs and System design were great and that they decided to downgrade to L4 based on OOD round (expected).
Still waiting on email confirmation for other details regarding the offer.
