Hey everyone!
I recently went through the Amex GBT interview process for an SDE-1 role and thought of sharing my experience here to help others preparing for similar opportunities.
I got this opportunity through a referral, and after a few weeks of waiting, I received the call from HR. They asked current and expected salary, they said they can offer 24(No stocks) LPA and there will be room for negotiation after the interviews. The process was smooth and well-coordinated throughout.
💻 Round 1 – Online Assessment (90 mins)
The test consisted of:
2 DSA questions on arrays and strings (medium-level)
One was sliding window based
Another was on prefix sums and hashmap
10 MCQs on CS fundamentals (DBMS, OS, OOPs, and basic output prediction)
I solved both questions completely and most MCQs correctly.
🧠 Round 2 – Technical Interview 1 (DSA + Core CS)
This round focused on problem-solving and fundamentals.
2 DSA problems:
One on Binary Search with edge cases
One on Graph BFS traversal with some custom conditions
Discussed time and space complexity
Questions on OOPs concepts like inheritance, polymorphism, and design patterns
A few system design basics (how would you design a URL shortener)
Interviewer was friendly and gave hints when I got stuck.
⚙️ Round 3 – Technical Interview 2 (Low-Level Design + Coding)
This was a deep dive into coding style and design thinking.
Implemented a small LLD problem — “Design a Parking Lot”
Discussed how to handle concurrency and scaling
Then 1 DSA problem — LinkedList cycle detection and modification
They also asked about my past project, REST APIs, and Spring Boot experience.
💬 Round 4 – HR + Managerial
This was more conversational.
Discussed project ownership and challenges
Few behavioral questions like:
“Tell me about a time you disagreed with a teammate.”
“How do you prioritize tasks under tight deadlines?”
Finally discussed compensation, notice period, and location preference.
Waiting for the final results.
